Jack is a 55 year resident of Broward County, except for his recent brief retirement in Ecuador. Upon recently moving back to Broward, Jack joined the WorkforceOne program as Senior Executive to work on StartupQuest. Jack’s resume includes public and private sector experience with many leadership positions. He served two terms as a county commissioner, including president of the Florida Association of Counties. He had a gubernatorial appointment to the Sawgrass Express Authority. When chairman, he led the successful effort to sell the road to the Turnpike Authority, returning many millions of dollars to the county for other road building projects. Just prior to his retirement, he was the Regional Director of the Florida Department of Children and Families, managing a budget in excess of $300 million dollars, and a staff of over 1300. While in the private sector, he started a travel agency with one employee, and sold it ten years later as the fifth largest in Florida … of more than 5,000 travel agencies. During this period he was Chairman of the Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce, as well Chairman of the Downtown Development Authority. Tana Obiero, Program Assistant
Tana Obiero is the Program Assistant for Startup Quest Broward. Receiving her Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Seattle Pacific University, she is currently working towards her Masters of Science degree in International Relations. Tana’s previous experience includes participating in the AmeriCorps MLK VISTA as the program developer for a startup non-profit organization as well as working with multiple non-profit agencies that provide social services to the refugee and immigrant community of South Seattle. Her experience draws from working with city and state-funded grants to fulfill rigorous program requirements while managing grant-oriented data entry and record keeping, high level of customer service, and general program functions.
